Henry E. Rohlsen Airport, Terminal Improvements Phase I
St. Croix, USVI
The Henry E. Rohlsen Airport, St. Croix’s only airport, suffered damage during the hurricanes of 2017 and was severely in need of a state-of-the-art renovation to welcome travelers to the island. J. Benton was awarded the first of this four-phase project, completed four months ahead of schedule. A day and night crew was utilized to minimize impacts to operations and travelers. The team sequenced numerous phases where they worked around and over airline partners, airport tenants, TSA, CBP, VIPA operations, and passengers daily. Additionally, JBC field operations worked 70,787 person-hours safely and without incident!
Some unique scopes of work to this project included – extensive use of SwiftWall temporary panels, spray-on fireproofing to the entire underside of the roof structure, 15,000 SF of epoxy terrazzo flooring with accent bands, arched aluminum/glass storefronts, new airline counters, decorative modular ceiling and gridless metal system, high impact wall protection with graphics. We also utilized (40) subcontractors and suppliers in this truly collaborative effort.
