Rehabilitation of Government House
St. Thomas, USVI
Located in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, Government House suffered extensive damage during Hurricane Irma and sat vacant for two years following. During this time, rainwater infiltrated the structure, causing infestation of mold and water damage to walls, floors, ceilings, electrical systems, security and data systems, HVAC, and millwork. J. Benton won the contract through a competitive bid process, began construction in March 2020, completing in September 2021. A 1,023 SF, 3rd story addition was completely removed from the existing slab and rebuilt with masonry walls, concrete roof, and double hung windows. The renovation also included the addition of two new kitchens and a passenger elevator servicing all three levels of the building.
