Royal Dane Mall, Selective Demolition & Debris Removal
St. Thomas, USVI
The Royal Dane Mall, located in one of the oldest buildings in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, , suffered extensive damage in 2017 from Hurricane Irma and then again in 2019 when a fire began in an office space and spread quickly. The historic buildings date back over 100 years making them sensitive to the demolition and debris removal that needed to take place. J. Benton and the Owner agreed upon an approach that allowed flexibility with scope and direction to perform work as needed and requested by the owner. The scope of work included securing a temporary roofing structure previously installed by others, securing other areas of the property to be storm-ready ; a focus on removing or securing loose, damaged, or exposed components that may cause damage to adjacent properties in windstorm events; the removal and disposal of materials and components irreparably damaged in the fire. The focus was to remove safety hazards, demolish and dispose of materials and building components deemed to be un-salvageable, with no use or value to future construction.
