Superior Court of the Virgin Islands Roof Replacement and Office Repairs, Phase I
St. Croix, USVI
The Courtyard Renovation and Judges Offices Addition Project for the Superior Courts of the Virgin Islands (SCVI) on St. Croix was a pivotal infrastructure upgrade managed by J. Benton Construction. This project focused on re-roofing the courtyard area and adding new office spaces for judges. Our team successfully navigated the challenge of working in an owner-occupied courthouse, ensuring minimal disruption to court proceedings by scheduling work during evenings, weekends, and early mornings. Key to our success was efficiently moving materials in and out of the courtyard without interfering the daily operations and maintaining strict security protocols to separate our employees and subcontractors from court personnel and the public.
Phase I of the project included constructing footings and slabs for the new offices and erecting a steel structural frame to support a space frame over the courtyard – pto be completed in Phase II, whcih we were also awarded. We replaced all existing Sausalito tiles with a durable epoxy floor, installed glass walls and doors, and completed all necessary mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) requirements. The project team completed the project within the original schedule despite the complexities and challenges. Our commitment to quality and efficiency ensured the successful completion of this significant project, enhancing the functionality and aesthetics of the SCVI courthouse.
